Remember Lot's Wife

Luke 17 : 32, Remember Lot's wife. -NKJV

2 Corinthians 6 : 17 – 18, Therefore, "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you." 'I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." -NKJV

2 Chronicles 7 : 13 – 14, When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. -NKJV

Recently, I was invited to minister on a Christian television program. As I sought the Lord’s direction for the subject that He wanted me to share, He reminded me of the passages from 2 Chronicles and 2 Corinthians. Before that moment, it had never occurred to me to connect these two passages together.

In both references, we find that the Lord is instructing His people to come out from the ways of the world. If you are born again by the Spirit of God, you have the power to live in this world, but not take on its ways.

Living in a world that is filled with sinful pleasures can make it difficult on believers if we give into our desires for them. Maintaining a life of fidelity to the Lord requires a committed heart. It’s not that the Lord doesn’t want us to enjoy our time on earth; He doesn’t want us to be ensnared in the bondages of it.

Becoming entangled in the pleasures of this life that lead us into bondage doesn’t occur overnight, but it will take place over time. If we should long for pleasures to the point that we allow ourselves to compromise a little at a time, eventually we will drift away from the Lord and safety.

Peter warns us of drifting and encourages us to remain submitted to the Lord for protection. He goes on to write in 1 Peter 5 that Satan goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

If we allow ourselves to give into lustful passions to fulfill them, it will open our lives to the enemy to devour us. Erosion can bring down a metal bridge over time even though it begins as just a small spot.

Compromise can begin very slowly, but if it isn’t stopped in time, it can cause Christians to cast off all restraint. At that point, spiritual corruption will take over our hearts.

Instead of setting our affections on the pleasures of the world, we are to keep our eyes on the real prize, eternal life. God is calling His children by His Spirit to come out from the ways of the world and return to Him. Are there areas in your life that you’ve compromised? Has this compromise caused you to drift away from the Lord to a degree?

We are instructed by the Lord to, “Remember Lot’s wife." In a moment of time, she chose to look at what she was leaving, and this caused her to lose her life. We must not look back when the Lord is directing us to walk away from the pleasures of this world. Remember, if you’re a believer in Christ, God has already delivered you from this world. Walk away!
